Keeping The Weight Off Throughout The Christmas Season

There’s a lot of delicious food around us at Christmas time. Parties and gatherings are abundant, and so is the food & alcohol. It is a time to be merry. But the pounds can add up when we’re enjoying all that merry-making. I limit the damage by staying in my maintenance mode. That is, by being 100% on track with my diet six days per week, allowing myself one day to isolate as a “cheat or treat day”. This let’s me maintain my present weight and body fat. Consider it damage control.
So, if you know that you have a Christmas party to attend on a Saturday, make that the day that you can have some treats, but be perfect with your eating & water intake on the other six days that week. If you run into the problem of two parties on the same weekend, be strong and choose one as your cheat day. At the other party, just make the healthiest choices that you can make. Remember, you don’t have to eat and drink to have a good time. You’re with family, friends, and co-workers. Just enjoy their company and good conversations. You will at least maintain your current weight and body fat, and not gain the weight that so many gain at this time of year.
Another thing that will help, is adding a little extra cardiovascular exercise. An extra day or even an extra 10 minutes each day will help to burn off some of the excess consumption. Have the will power and discipline to not allow yourself to let the weight get out of hand this year. You’ll be glad that you did. You’ll be at a better starting point for the new year and new goals. Have a merry & a blessed Christmas. Remember our brave military men and women who are overseas and separated from their loved ones. Cherish your family and friends. Keep those who are alone in your thoughts and prayers, or if you know someone who will be alone for Christmas, call them, or visit them, or invite them. Leave behind old resentments. Forgive, or ask forgiveness, and heal. Let it go. Christmas is the time to do these things. We were given the Greatest Gift, and we ought to give as well. And giving of ourselves is the best gift that we can give, with a word of kindness, an extended hand, open arms, our listening ears, prayer, and most of all, our time. Cherish it.

Merry Christmas!
